Despite of the fact that most of the places are closed in Nederland due to lockdown, however we still manage to go to Volendam, also known as the fisherman village. Volendam is one of the most attractive tourist place when you speak of Netherland. Being in the Netherlands, it is must to go place to experience it’s well known tradition, culture, clothing, cheese factory, waffles factory and breathtaking views.
Volendam literally in Dutch means “Filled Dams”.

Below are the few things that I did while we visited this city and I would recommend that you try them as well whenever you decide to visit Volendam.
1. Boats
Volendam has a small harbour with lots of small fishing boats and it also is the embarking and disembarking point for the Marken-Volendam ferry.

2. Traditional clothing
An interesting fact is that around 50 women still wear the traditional clothes as part of their daily life.
3. Volendam Museum
It is a small local folk museum, where you can see their culture & tradition, costumes, history of place and beautiful work of art.

4. Photography
There are many photography shops when you can rent the local folklore clothing and take pictures with them to keep as a memory.

5. Ferry to Marken
Volendam Marken express is the site where you can pre book your tickets and can go to Marken to watch one of the famous lighthouse and picturesque houses and harbour.
Food & Drinks
1. Cheese factory – You witness a live demo how they make Gouda cheese and go on a tour in the factory. Its FREE !!!.You can also taste the variety of cheese available. My favourite is Jalapeno Cheese.

2. Poffertje
A must try desert. “Poffertjes are a traditional Dutch batter treat. Resembling small, fluffy pancakes, they are made with yeast and buckwheat flour. They have a light, spongy texture. Typically, poffertjes are a sweet treat, served with powdered sugar and butter, and sometimes syrup.”
3. Fish
As you all know that this the fisherman village, that’s obvious, fish is a must try thing if you eat fish. In Netherlands “Herring” is the typical fish. One of the most recommended restaurant is De Lunch and my husband and his friends always say that the food is amazing there. Being a vegetarian I can only satisfy myself with the fries there and with knoflooksaus (a.k.a garlic sauce), its simply finger licking.
