Keukenhof – The 15th century garden

You must have somewhere somehow heard about the world famous garden called Keukenhof. It is located in Netherlands. It was first opened for the public in the year 1950 and around 200,000+ visitors visited it. I was also shocked to know the numbers. It surely has some rich history behind it. However, here are some of the facts, I got to know from my visit to the garden:

  1. The name ‘tulip’ comes from the Persian word ‘tulipan’ which means ‘turban’. This refers to the shape of the tulip bulb.
  2. Most tulips originate from the mountains between Turkey and China. They are used to cold snowy winters and hot dry summers.
  3. There is a myth that black tulip exists. However, they cross breed the several tulips and then grow them. For example – Red and Yellow tulip will be dark purple. Black is the color that does not exist in the nature. Deep purple color may look like black color.
  4. 2024 will be the 75th edition of Keukenhof.
  5. It is the garden where you can enjoy over 7 million flowering tulips, daffodils and other bulb flowers in spring.

Experience in the garden

The moment we entered there, we were stunned after seeing adequate amount of flowers. It was all so beautiful yet colorful. You can click loads of pictures. There are some shops, where you can buy flower pots, souvenirs, handcrafted items, tulip designed apparels etc. It can be a perfect gift for your loved ones. There are some cafes too where you can have lunch or have a cup of coffee in case you are tired/hungry.
