SAIL Amsterdam 2025: The World’s Biggest Nautical Event of the Decade

For the first time in my life, I had the chance to experience SAIL Amsterdam 2025, the world’s biggest nautical event of the decade, and it all happened right here in the country I live in. This spectacular event takes place once every five years in Amsterdam. However, the last edition in 2020 was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which made this year’s celebration even more anticipated. In 2025, SAIL Amsterdam returned in full glory, taking over the city’s harbor from 20 to 24 August 2025, with millions of visitors gathering to admire the breathtaking tall ships and join in the festivities.

What is SAIL Amsterdam?

Sail Amsterdam is one of the world’s most breathtaking maritime events, held every five years in the Dutch capital, where hundreds of historic tall ships, naval vessels, and modern boats gather in the city’s waterways. For a few days, Amsterdam transforms into a floating festival, with its harbors lined by majestic ships that visitors can board, admire, and photograph, while lively parades, cultural performances, and nautical demonstrations bring the celebration to life. It’s not just a showcase of sailing heritage but also a vibrant reminder of the city’s deep connection to the sea, making it a must-see experience for anyone who loves history, culture, and the magic of the open water.

I’ve added a YouTube video from Sail Amsterdam — don’t miss it! 🎥⛵ You’ll be amazed at how many boats pass by every minute. It’s such a unique and exciting sight to watch!
